How to cure Hashimoto’s thyroiditis? Firts you need to realize that it is an autoimmune dysfunction. In autoimmune dysfunction, your immune system goes haywire, seemingly becoming paranoid and mounting pre-emptive strikes against normal cells of the body, reacting as if they were dangerous and needed elimination. This is the basis of “autoimmune disorders.”
For example, if your Immune System kills off your insulin producing cells (beta cells) in your pancreas, you develop Type 1 diabetes. If the target of the attack is your respiratory system, you develop asthma. If the target is nerve tissue, you develop Multiple Sclerosis (MS). If the target is the intestines, you develop Celiac disease, Crohn’s disease or Ulcerative colitis. If the target is joints, you develop Rheumatoid arthritis or Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). If the target is the thyroid gland, you develop either Hashimoto’s thyroiditis which often leads to hypothyroidism or Graves’ disease, which often leads to hyperthyroidism.
It is important to realize that those patients with Graves’ disease who receive treatment with radio-iodine or surgery continue to suffer from the autoimmune dysfunction, because these treatment modalities do not treat the autoimmune process in your body. Consequently, you remain at risk to develop any other manifestation of the autoimmune dysfunction
How to Cure Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis?
What causes Hashimoto’s thyroiditis? If you ask your physician, the likely response will be, “Oh, we know genetics is a factor. Besides that, we don’t know much about it.”
Even if you read textbooks on Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, you won’t find any more information in this regard.
It is true that autoimmune diseases, including Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, tend to congregate in families. You’re at a high risk of developing an autoimmune disease if you have a family history of an autoimmune disease. For example, your mother may have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis or Graves’ Disease, while your sister may have Asthma or Crohns’ Disease. Your brother may have Celiac disease.
Here is a list of various autoimmune diseases.
- Autoimmune Thyroid Disease, which can either cause you to have a low level of thyroid hormone (Autoimmune Thyroiditis ) or a high level of thyroid hormone (Graves’ Disease).
- Gluten Sensitivity/Celiac Disease
- Vitamin B12 Deficiency
- Pernicious Anemia
- Alopecia areata
- Ulcerative Colitis
- Crohns’ Disease
- Type 1 Diabetes
- Adrenal Insufficiency/Addison’s disease
- Multiple Sclerosis (M.S.)
- Chronic rheumatologic conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Systemic Lupus Erythematosis (commonly known as Lupus) and Ankylosing Spondylitis.
What Really Causes Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis?
MY OWN CLINICAL RESEARCH
Not every genetically predisposed individual (not even twins) develops an autoimmune disease. We cannot do anything about genetics anyway. Are there some other factors responsible for autoimmune dysfunction and can they be treated? As an endocrinologist, I was curious about these questions. What I discovered is amazing!
In all of my patients with autoimmune diseases, including Autoimmune thyroiditis, I discovered the following three factors play a crucial role in causing an autoimmune disease. What is even more exciting is that all of these factors are treatable.
Treatable Factors That Cause Hasimoto’s Thyroiditis
- High Carbohydrate (especially Gluten) diet.
- Vitamin D deficiency.
I have developed my own sensible, practical approach to deal with each of these factors. I discuss my approach to cure Hshimoto’s thyroiditis as well as appropriate treatment of Hypothyroidism with a combination of T4 and T3 in my book, “Hypothyroidism and Hashimotos thyroiditis”
