Fatigue is a common symptom and is often quite debilitating. Fatigue has many different causes. Unfortunately, physicians often don't diagnose the root cause of fatigue. They often dismiss it, saying things like "It's all in your head," "You must be depressed," "You have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome," or "You're just getting older." It takes an experienced physician (often an endocrinologist) to sort out the various causes of fatigue.

The common causes of fatigue include:

1.  Sleep deprivation due to a variety of reasons.

2.  Under-active thyroid.

3.  Over-active thyroid.

4.  Uncontrolled Diabetes.

5.  Adrenal fatigue due to Stress.

6.  Post-prandial (post-meal) hypoglycemia.

7.  Side-effect of drugs.

8.  Vitamin D deficiency.

9.  Vitamin B12 deficiency

10. Sleep apnea.

11. Low testosterone in men.

12. Low growth hormone.

13. Anemia.

14. Anxiety/Depression.

15. Adrenal insufficiency.

16. Cancer.

17. Weak heart.

18. Emphysema and scarring of lungs.

19. Chronic infections such as tuberculosis, valley fever.
